Leaving the banking world behind to pursue his passion for wine, Guillermo Banfi
set up to create a high quality boutique winery dedicated to producing accessible, hand crafted wines. The realization of this goal brought about the Sur de los Andes winery, which Banfi, partner Mickey Vail and winemaker Pablo Durigutti founded in 2005. Located in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Sur de los Andes produces wines under the names Sur de los Andes and Alma de los Andes. Under the direction of winemaker Pablo Durigutti (formerly of Rutini winery) who gained his experience working alongside famed brother Hector Durigutti (head enologist of Altos Las Hormigas), all the grapes are carefully selected from small vineyards in Mendoza that maintain stringent vineyard management and low-yield practices. Sur de los Andes has received international recognition from various important periodicals as making some of the wine world’s best values, ensuring that these wines will remain highly sought after.
