Established in 2005 Demetria Estate is a family owned winery. Estate owner John Zahoudanis is committed to the consistent and enduring creation of uncommon wines. Before purchasing Andrew Murray’s property and renaming it Demetria Estate, Zahoudanis had bought Fess Parker’s Ashley’s Vineyard, which he transformed into Gaia Vineyard. He kept both of the vineyards and he selected the two-headed ram as his estate logo to symbolize the marriage of his Rhone-based Demetria varietals and the Burgundy wines of Gaia. The wines of Demetria Estate closely echo their respective vineyard sources and the measured hand of Winemaker Michael Roth. Both, John and Mike, believe that low yields, sustainable and biodynamic farming practices, and gentle winemaking produce exceptional quality wines. Before starting with this project, the winemaker Mike Roth has made a lot of great wines with Mike Grgich at Grgich Hills and Nils Venge at Saddleback Cellars in Napa Valley.
