During the 1947 Burgundy harvest, Gabriel d'Ardhuy met his future wife Elaine, daughter of a local grower. His passion for the vineyards and wine would be the start of a beautiful adventure in two regions close to his heart: Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. Today, two of his seven daughters continue with the third generation of their family tradtion.
Domaine d’Ardhuy is located in the heart of Burgundy, in the Côte de Nuits bordering the Côte de Beaune. It is nestled in the Clos des Langres, which has been known for the quality of its wine since the monks of the Abbaye de Cîteau planted the first vineyards in the 10th Century. Four generations of the d'Ardhuy family have owned this 45 hectare estate, the vineyards of which stretch from Puligny-Montrachet to Gevrey-Chambertin and produce some 40 different wines (mainly Grands Crus and 1er Crus). The average annual production of the domaine is 20,000 cases. The production of excellent wine demands vinifying grapes of exceptional quality. This is the motto of domaine owner Gabriel d’Ardhuy. His winemaker, Carel Voorhuis is in the same line. All fermentation takes place traditionally - in oak barrels with regular stirring of the lees at the end of the fermentation process. |
