L'Angevin Wines

The concept for L'Angevin Wines is to seek out mature vineyards in cool climates and combine them with diligent vineyard care and classical winemaking techniques.

L'Angevin began as a joint venture between Alan Peirson and Robbie Meyer who met at Peter Michael Winery where Robbie was the enologist and assistant winemaker, and Alan was the estate/project manager. Joining the venture in 2002, making L'Angevin an entirely family business are Lesley Warner-Peirson and Shannon Meyer.

L’Angevin, Robbie’s mother’s family name, was the obvious choice when we selected a name for our endeavor. The name could serendipitously be separated into the French words Ange (angel) and Vin (wine), giving us “angel wine.” Actually, the name is derived from the Old French Andegavia referring to the winegrowing region of Anjou, France where Robbie’s ancestors lived.

The three red squares originate from Alan Peirson’s art history background and his interest in Asian printmaking. In Alan’s own clay work and sculptures of clay, wood, stone and bronze, his signature is three stamped squares.

Robbie Meyer
As part owner and winemaker for L’Angevin, Robbie’s interest in wine began at an early age while working with food and wine in his native city of Marietta, Georgia, leading him to serve as a restaurant wine steward when he was eighteen. His academic work was based in Biology, and he received a B.S. degree from the University of Georgia. It was his love of food and wine that brought him to study winemaking in California. His studies in plant sciences and chemistry were a great match for his graduate work at the University of California, Davis where he received his Master’s Degree in Enology.

Robbie spent five vintages working at Peter Michael Winery as well as two vintages as winemaker for Lewis Cellars. He is currently consulting winemaker for Sage Vineyards on Mt. Veeder, in addition to Vogelzang Vineyards in Santa Barbara and Jericho Canyon and Versant Vineyards, both in Napa Valley

Alan Peirson
A California native, growing up in Marin County, Alan began his studies as a student in Art History at the College of Marin. Surrounding his artistic life as a ceramicist and sculptor, Alan has always had an intense interest in food, wine, building, design, horticulture and landscaping.

For twenty years, designing, building and managing what is now the Peter Michael Winery Estate, Alan played an integral role in the genesis and development of the estate winery and vineyard program. He also used his many talents as Estate Manager, as well as Artistic Director of a non-profit organization raising money for the performing arts. His palate for fine wines was fed and expanded while managing The Vineyard Cellars.

In the summer of 2002, Alan started a new challenge on the slopes of Mt. Veeder with Sage Vineyards, developing and managing an estate vineyard and wine program while maintaining an active role as part owner of L’Angevin Wines.
