Lamont Wines Ltd. is a family owned, boutique, Central Otago winery specializing in Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling. It is situated on 30 acres in the sub-region of Bendigo, on the site of a historic gold mining town. Lamont Wines have developed an uncompromised approach in the pursuit of fruit quality. The vineyards consist of two blocks, less than 1 mile apart. Situated on the 45th parallel South, less than 400,000 people live in this strip around the globe. This reflects an absence of pollution and disease pressure, allowing the grapes to flourish. Initiatives and practices in the vineyard, such as the digging of soil pits to carry out a full soil analysis at different soil horizons. Next, soil mapping took place in order to lay the blocks of vines out as per soil type and not block shape. All of these practices are very costly but imperative to growing the best fruit possible every vintage. Lamont owner, Lindsay McLachlan and the winemaker Craig Daly have taken every possible step to create the finest wines from the region.
