Sage Vineyards was established in 1997 by Robert Nugent and Brian Malk. Their vineyards are located at the southern most portion of the Mount Veeder appellation, hugging the ridge at elevations of 1,800 feet to 2,100 feet. The 21 acres of vineyard consist of the following varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec. It is from these varietals that the Sage blend is assembled. Sage Vineyard practices sustainable farming to produce (low yields) from 2.25-2.75 tons per acre. The vineyards are managed by Alan Peirson and winemaking is watched over by Robbie Meyer. Robbie spent five vintages working at Peter Michael Winery as well as two vintages as winemaker for Lewis Cellars. For twenty years, Alan Peirson was designing, building and managing what is now the Peter Michael Winery Estate.
