Juan Pablo Penalba and Victor Garretas founded Valpiculata in 1999. The family of Victor Garretas had been growing vines in Toro for more than 200 years. Juan Pablo brought the experience from his family's winery in Ribera del Duero. Together, they acquired a winery more than one hundred years old that was in abandon and restored it carefully. The small Estate has 18 Has in small plots around Venialbo, in the South West of Zamora. This part of Zamora is one of the very few places in Spain where Phylloxera could never take hold.
