Widely regarded as one of the most respected estates in the Loire, Dezat has been making wine over four generations. Between local and British demand, Dezat has no need to export to the US so we are extremely pleased to be able to get a small quantity of their Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé for Illinois market. The Dezat family is one of the oldest wine-growing families in Sancerre. References to the family can be found in records dating as far back as 1550. André Dezat took over the family vineyards in 1948 and became actively involved in promoting the wines of Sancerre. In the 1970's, he was joined by his sons, Louis and Simon. The Domaine modernized with new facilities and gained new impetus, particularly in terms of the production of wines from Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. There are 20 hectares in Sancerre under vine, spread over five villages where the grapes produced on three different soil types are blended to give a perfectly balanced wine. In Pouilly-Fumé the family owns the 10 hectare Domaine de Thibault where the heavier soil gives a fuller wine.
