Ataraxia was founded in 2004.  Husband and wife team, Kevin and Hanli, in partnership with a few friends, purchased 50 hectares of prime vineyard land.  The landscape in which Ataraxia is situated, called The Skyfields is unique, lying as it does on the most elevated section of the Hemel-en-Aarde area.  Ataraxia, with vineyards on the slopes of the 1200 meter high Babylon’s Toren, is the creation of Kevin Grant, formerly the hugely admired winemaker at Hamilton Russell at the foot of the valley.  The winery is named after the Greek word for a “tranquil state of mind”, free from worry or preoccupation; and Kevin seeks to make wines of equilibrium and harmony.  Already into its 4th vintage, Ataraxia has burst onto national and international scene with the string of accolades and rave reviews.

Born in Malawi and schooled in Cape Town.  While working at top-end estates in South Africa, he undertook study/harvest trips to France, Oregon, Australia and New Zealand.
