Proprietor Nicholas Allen and winemaker Luc Morlet make these Bordeaux-inspired reds. Allen's family has been in the wine business for nearly a century, since my great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, acquired Chateau Haut-Brion in 1935 and his family company, Domaine Clarence Dillon, subsequently purchased Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. He gained an early exposure, appreciation, and genuine interest in wine from his family. Eventually, Allen was inspired to produce his own boutique label in Napa Valley Carte Blanche. The wines are vinified with natural yeasts and natural bacteria for the malolactic fermentations. The Proprietary Red is a Bordeaux right bank-modeled wine made with Cabernet Franc from To Kalon, Merlot from Newton on Spring Mountain and Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard in Calistoga. The first vintage for Carte Blanche is 2008.
