Jim and Mary Beth Vogelzang have clearly found not only an exceptional piece of land on which to grow Sauvignon Blanc, but they wisely hired the talented Robbie Meyer from Napa Valley to craft their wine. Robbie is the former winemaker at Peter Michael Winery, Lewis Cellars and he is currently making wines for his own labels; L’Angevin and Peirson Meyer, which Novovino Wine Co. represents in Illinois. The higher temperatures in this part of the valley give the resulting wine a stone fruit focus, along with enticing notes of ripe melon and honey, and light but luscious textures. A dash of lime is about as green as it gets, and the length and elegance of previous bottling is evident in this latest release. Vogelzang has 77 producing acres of vineyard property in the Happy Canyon region of the Santa Ynez Valley. Planted in 1998, the vineyard produces Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Mourvedre, Viognier and Grenache Noir. New blocks include Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and hillside Sauvignon Blanc
